We have a lot of bears in Oregon. In fact at our Fiddle Creek property storage sheds are raided regularly and bears have been known to party in unguarded cabins, gorging themselves with what they can find in the refrigerators – kind of like teenagers. I tend to always whistle or sing, or just generally make a lot of noise when I am hiking around those woods alone. A friend of mine who is a zoologist recommended I buy some bear bells to wear on my shoes when I am out walking. It's on my list. Bears have a special place in our hearts in my family, mostly because we are always trying to avoid them. However, if I had an animal spirit guide, it would most likely be an incorrigible but quick witted bear. Recently my husband and I were visiting downtown Bend and came across some fantastic art that captured this bear essence but in a unique pop art way reminiscent of a Warhol work. Perfect for my little house in the woods. This house is one where we and others go to relax and unwind and not be too serious, so these three bears are our home’s ambassadors of culture.
If you have never been to Bend, I highly recommend grabbing a Fodors, work in a day hike around the area then spending an afternoon touring all the shops, so many great local artisans, brew pubs and restaurants.
